APPAREL REVIEW:

Alton Miller

'From The Future’ EP

[Roots Underground Records]

"While we have the pleasure of premiering ‘Crossing’ by Alton Miller on Apparel Premiere, we felt the need to review the whole EP released by Roots Underground, being it a truly remarkable work. The three-track vinyl titled ‘From The Future’ (8th to date on the Florentine’s imprint catalogue) is a ‘Deep’ journey into Miller’s sonic world and it epitomises his ridiculous talent as a producer. The Chicagoan but Detroit based artist doesn’t need any further introduction, his nearly 30 yrs career speaks for him, so let’s just dive into the sound and see what happens. Happens that the first track ‘Crossing’ immediately sets the record straight with its solid rhythm section, an evolving harmonic structure held upright by spacey pads and Deep, mellow chords which create a splendid club loop that never tires. The second tune called ‘The World Needs Love’ keeps the ball rolling with an also rocklike beat, this time helped by some irresistible percussions and an alluring yet compact acid bassline; the masterly processed vocal samples do the rest giving a that definite Deep touch which is one of the numerous Alton’s watermarks. The Grand Finale is about ‘Brooklyn’. Infact, the closing track reminds of those early New York House sounds but completely redesigned by the American artists in a modern, latin-like way, full of sonic details embellished by some more sumptuous percussions, which really give a classy touch to the end of this amazingly classy EP. What else can we say more than this? Well, that the purchase of this record is strongly recommended, and nobody payed us to say so!"
