Now & Next: DJ Psychiatre

Now & Next is a quick-fire interview series built around two simple but telling questions. We ask artists to reflect on where they’re at in their career and creative journey, and where they’re headed next. For each answer, they pick two tracks: one that sums up where they’re at right now, and another that hints at where they’re going. The artists also drop a few lines about each track, giving us a peek into their creative mindset.

Where Am I?

I think that right now — especially with the release of "Moving Into Jazz" — I’m clearly in my deep house phase, which ties in with some of the previous records I’ve released. What I appreciate most in a track is the depth of the initial groove, subtle variations throughout to keep it alive, and always an emotional or melodic touch.

Where Am I Going?

It won’t be surprising to those who know me personally, but maybe a bit more so for people who only follow me through my releases or my music in general: I’m a huge music enthusiast. I listen to everything, and I try to build my collection so I can adapt my DJ sets to the vibe — whether it’s early morning, evening, noon, or afternoon. My dream has always been to be invited somewhere to play a 24-hour set and blend all kinds of styles. I can mix ambient, trance, hip-hop, disco, pop, downtempo, and of course anything related to house and techno.

Track (Now):
Saturday Afternoon
Flabaire

"I find that the simpler it is, the better it works. I’ve always been a fan of Flabaire, who’s one of my inspirations, and I think this track reflects where I’m at musically right now."

Track (Next):
Sea Of Love
Huerco S.

"In particular, I’m a big collector of ambient music, and this track was the one that pulled me down the rabbit hole of the genre. Why does it reflect where I’m heading now? Because I’ve always produced ambient tracks from time to time — especially recently — and I now have a number of demos. I’d love to release them on cassette through some obscure label, but I haven’t had the opportunity yet. Hopefully it’ll happen soon!"
