Now & Next: Heritage Listed

Now & Next is a quick-fire interview series built around two simple but telling questions. We ask artists to reflect on where they’re at in their career and creative journey, and where they’re headed next. For each answer, they pick two tracks: one that sums up where they’re at right now, and another that hints at where they’re going. The artists also drop a few lines about each track, giving us a peek into their creative mindset.

Where Am I?

I’m sitting in my new apartment in Amsterdam, watching the winter unfold and bikers glide past, and I can’t help but feel a sense of gratitude. Nearly two years ago, I left Australia without knowing where I’d end up, and now, here I am—sitting in this space, having achieved nearly all the goals I set for myself this year. There’s still so much more to do, but for someone who’s been in Europe for just over a year, I’m proud of how far I’ve come. This year has been anything but easy. It’s tested me in ways I didn’t expect, but I’ve grown immensely through those challenges. And while the road ahead is long, I couldn’t be happier with the direction I’m heading.

Where Am I Going?

I think I’ll be calling Amsterdam home for the next few years. My first ADE was an unforgettable experience—it reminded me how much people love and appreciate music. With winter settling in, I’m gearing up for what’s ahead: growing Basics Recording as a label and continuing to develop the Heritage Listed project. There’s plenty to look forward to next year—a couple of shows back in Australia and even more gigs across Europe. 2025 feels like it’s going to be something special. I can sense it.

Track (Now):
2005
Duke Hugh

"I discovered this song recently while on a plane to Barcelona at sunset, and it perfectly captures how I feel about the future. When the guitar comes in, it gives me a sense of peace. With silky smooth warm pads and percussion, it’s like that song that plays at the end of a movie after all the chaos, letting you know everything will be alright. And after one of the craziest years of my life, it feels like that more than ever. I don’t think I’ve ever felt better about doing music than I do now."

Track (Next):
Woman To Woman
Moomin

"The perfect track to sum up how I feel about the future is this masterpiece by Moomin. It’s melancholic, beautiful, and pulls your heartstrings. That bassline is one of the best things I’ve ever heard. It makes me want to keep going and going."
