APPAREL REVIEW:

Temple - Love Machine EP

[Internasjonal]

"The Adelaidean Temple is the protagonist of the next release on the Norwegian imprint Internasjonal (run by the renowned Oslo wonder boy Prins Thomas), with an impressive four-track record called the ‘Temple’ EP, out on both vinyl and digital on the next 28th of May 2021. It is indeed, quite striking how the producer from ‘down under’ manages to translate what we’ve learnt to know in the past 25 -or so- years as the Norwegian sound in his own musical language, bringing a unique touch yet keeping intact the sonic characteristic that made this sound famous around the world. Pioneers like Bjørn Torske and the late (and very much missed) Erot would be proud of this EP. But let’s not wait any longer to start this musical journey. Since the opening track ‘Love Machine’ the producer’s intent to cook his own Disco recipe is clear, with a rock solid kick+snare beat, adorned by some crispy hi-hats, some masterly crafted vocal samples and illuminated by some spacey synth pads leading to that typical harmonic explosion which is the quintessential trademark of that Scandinavian sound. As the EP keeps playing we get stunned by ‘Love Machine II’, its synthesis melodic moans and its incredibly cool, fat bass-line driving the vibe throughout the whole track to the ‘Baby Baby Don’t’ sexy Cry. The third track is called ‘Preview’ and it takes straight away the listener to a slightly Southern part of the world with its neat horn section and some superbly programmed percussions, alongside what sounds like some exemplary 808’s rhythmics; all this contributing to make it a tremendous spiritual banger. The closing act of this really solid, cohesive, accurate yet intricate and ‘thought-provoking’ sonic trip called ‘Temple EP’ is ‘Xanga’, which from the very beginning hits for its uniqueness with a great acid bass-line setting the tone, a rich harmonic section and that symbolic beat programming (this time around with the addition of some crusty claps) and an impeccable outro making it the perfect end to the journey. We can now say we’ve been quite lucky to be able to listen to this record before its official release and all our congratulations go to the Australian artist Temple and of course to the label ‘Internasjonal’ for believing in his vision. Highly recommended."

Temple - Love Machine EP

[Internasjonal]

"fleet.dreams is about to release his newest record called ‘Return of the Dreamer’, a four track EP on Leopard Cage, available both on cassette and digital from the 28th of May. We’re looking at a very cohesive and compact work by the Texas born and Brooklyn based producer, yet, very rich in detail and variegated in terms of sound research; with ‘Return of the Dreamer’ the American artist, who’s discography tells the story of a keen sonic experimenter, delivers in fact a stunning display of his talents. The EP kicks off in style with ‘Silk Surface (Dub Mix)’, an alluring Deep House tune that, while filled with numerous sampling technicalities, still keeps a tribal-percussive soul very intact, leaving the listener with a huge curiosity of what will follow. And rightly so as ‘I'm So Addicted’ confirms the high expectations, keeping the same level of quality and being a proper banger with its vocal samples, compelling rhythm section and its fresh, summery feel. As the record goes on and we’re more and more into it, here’s a broken beat, some mellow dreamy pads, sweet chords and spacey arpeggios peeping out from the third track, ‘Queen of Sacred Waters’. With its meek, gentle sonic energy and its soothing, repetitive and airy melody is exactly what we needed at this point of the journey. The Deep, strong and determined intensity of ’Infinite Divinity’ (also premiered on Apparel Premiere), with the same effectiveness and efficacy in arranging a perfect closing tune, the American producer ends his sophisticated record; a sensory and sonic drive through his creative mind and, again, a dashing portrayal of his many capabilities as a music creator. A final mention to the label, Leopard Cage, and a praise to their vision and courage for bringing this EP to light, on the only second release of their catalogue. 28th of May is the date to save on your calendars, be advised!
