APPAREL REVIEW:

Moomin - The Snoofer

[Oath]

"When we listened to this beautiful release by Moomin we immediately thought we'd write something about it. In the ocean of music that exists today it is easy to get lost but, fortunately enough, there are some artists who occasionally throw you a lifesaver with their music and make you come back to shore with their sound full of personality. That’s surely the case of this stunning four-track EP called ‘The Snoofer’ by the German producer (which also features the likes of -no one other than- Seb Wildblood), out on the next 4th of June on Oath (vinyl and digital). ‘The Snoofer’, like many Moomin’s works, involves many genres such as House, Deep House, Breakbeat, Electronica and right from the beginning it is clear that some careful sound research has been involved, as the opening track ‘The Willow’ kicks off with some gentle hang drum notes which slowly dive into a 4/4 Deep beat. From the beginning to the end everything flows effortlessly between some masterly arranged velvety harmonies and a delicate melody, with the hang drum still percussing delicately, becoming at this point the ‘trait d’union’ between the intro and the outro. Stunning. The dawn of the second track, which is Seb Wildblood’s version of ‘For Willow’ leaves no time to catch a breath, exploding right away in a firm and groovy broken-beat yet keeping intact the harmonic guidelines of the original one but bringing his clear, rhythmic stamp once again with a little help from some airy pads and a final poignant melody leading towards the end. Definitely a worthy successor of its illustrious predecessor. The third (and title) track ‘The Snoofer’ is -for us- the masterpiece of the EP. With its pulsing rhythmics and its quivering, slightly side-chained chords mounting slowly but strongly, a smooth and wobbly bass-line, some neat upbeat hi-hats it epitomises the ‘less is more’ concept in the best possible (and musical) way. A very few -intricate and complex- elements, blending in a perfect sonic formula. The EP ends in style with ‘Breathe’ which sounds like a very Moomin-ish interpretation of a creamy/Lo-Fi Hip-Hop beat. The title itself resonates like an invitation to -finally- catch that breath that the listener held throughout the whole record. releasing the accumulated positive tension in a long, dreamy breathe. The Snoofer by Moomin, out on Oath, is a must listen for us, being it a true display of the producer’s versatility, a gaze out to a variegated landscape of sonic inputs. A must listen for us."
