Now & Next: MYLAMINE

Now & Next is a quick-fire interview series built around two simple but telling questions. We ask artists to reflect on where they’re at in their career and creative journey, and where they’re headed next. For each answer, they pick two tracks: one that sums up where they’re at right now, and another that hints at where they’re going. The artists also drop a few lines about each track, giving us a peek into their creative mindset.

Where Am I?

I am currently releasing a new song. This song “Find My Way” was birthed out of a very tumultuous year in my personal life. In both music and in the real world, I find it ever so important to not stick with the status quo. Take risks. Find what you love and what you are passionate about and go do it. It takes sacrifice to find your bliss and your peace, but it’s so worth it once you get there. This is actually one of my favorite times of music making, after months and months of creating the music, mixing and mastering, creating artwork and videos - it’s now time to release it to the world. If I can give just one person that amazing feeling that I get when I hear something really dope - then I am a happy man.

Where Am I Going?

This one is harder for me to answer. I have no firm goals or ideals on where my music is going or where it will take me. I tend to not dwell too much on the future and take every day as a brand new adventure. My modus operandi with music is to make good shit, try to get it out there as much as possible, and then whatever happens happens. I have found what I am super passionate about creating - very soulful and jazzy house music. I want to continue doing this for the foreseeable future.

Track (Now):
A Dream Goes on Forever
Todd Rundgren

"This song I came back to after not listening for many years. My father was a music lover himself and played vinyl and cassette for us kids all the time. This track was one of his favorites and is now one of mine too. I see it in a whole different light after having been a beatmaker. The instrumental side is so electronic, quirky, and unique. Then you add in his wonderful voice and lyrics. I chose this particular song because of the emotions it conveys. It helped me through this tumultuous period. Music can really become parts in the timelines of our lives - it’s one of my favorite things about it."

Track (Next):
Higher (Remix)
Antoine Bourachot, Art of Tones

"This is a straight jam! I have been following Art of Tones for many years now and his very solid and crispy music. This track exemplifies it greatly. The instruments all make sense, they all lead you to the crazy ass chorus. It makes you want to get up and dance. The reason why I chose it is because it signifies what I’m interested in creating. Something wonderful, lovely, makes sense, jazzy, soulful - and most importantly it puts the listener in a better mood. If one track can change the listener’s mood for a day then you won the contest, you won the prize."
