Now & Next: Moonee

Now & Next is a quick-fire interview series built around two simple but telling questions. We ask artists to reflect on where they’re at in their career and creative journey, and where they’re headed next. For each answer, they pick two tracks: one that sums up where they’re at right now, and another that hints at where they’re going. The artists also drop a few lines about each track, giving us a peek into their creative mindset.

Moonee Q&A

Where Am I?

Hey guys, Thanks for having me. Let me set the scene. I’m writing to you from the living room of my apartment in Marseille. I was producing until late last night, and the speakers and gear are still set up and ready to go, just in case an idea happens to spark. I’m in a calm and composed state of mind even if i had a short night. At the moment, I’m finishing up two EPs and my next album. There’s no (longer any) urgency to produce and release music, so I’m taking my time, revisiting my versions multiple times until I land on the sound I’m really after. That’s how I’m producing these days—slowly, jumping between tracks, refining the mix and arrangements until I reach a result that truly satisfies me. I also tend to favor late-night sessions for creativity. I think that has a lot to do with my lifestyle and surroundings.

Where Am I Going?

Most of my studio work at the moment is dedicated to re-arrange some parts of my new album to come in 2025, this one will reflect my desire to explore several genres under a common aesthetic and tone, while trying to embody this emotional feeling I’m seeking these days. Building strong emotional tension and creating truly musical pieces is something I’m deeply passionate about right now. I also find myself increasingly drawn to ambient and IDM-inspired sounds in my exploration of textures and samples. But it’s this emotional direction that truly drives me. It’s already beginning to bear fruit, and I can’t wait to share it with you. As you’ve probably gathered, I’m really excited about everything that’s coming together :)

Track (Now):
Placid Angles - Vent

"I feel like this track by Placid Angles captures my current productions as well as my recent vision and where I’m at in my journey. The contrast between fluid, atmospheric layers and choppy, rhythmic sessions fascinates me. It’s also a reflection of how I work these days—a deep, years-long process punctuated by highly productive moments where I can methodically and efficiently churn out work. Creating minimalist tracks with strong emotional impact has been my mantra lately, and I think you can hear that in Brotherhood (LYAM)—or at least I hope so!"

Track (Next):
Djrum - Blue Violet

"What a knockout! I imagine I’m not the only one who thinks of Djrum when it comes to discussing musical direction—it’s said his live shows are some of the most incredible performances in terms of organic and dub aestehtics out there right now. But this particular track resonates with me in a special way. Djrum, has a truly unique sensitivity within today’s electronic music scene. He perfectly embodies the balance between the organic and ambient sounds that I’m especially drawn to at the moment. He’s also a symbol of minimalis and efficiency in music , everything is distilled into pure emotion, contained masterfully throughout the track."
