Milan93 and his Shelford Treehouse EP

- Hi Lucas, how are you and how does it feel like releasing music on Apparel Music?

I've been hard at work on lots of new music to share with the world this year! It is really an honor to be releasing with Apparel Music, I've been a longtime fan and listener of the label. I first fell in love from the unknown artist series and really have been hooked ever since. Feels great to have my music as a part of the Apparel catalogue and I'm hoping for great things to come together.

- Talk us through the creative process behind the making of this EP. How did it come about and how did you work on it?

The EP is named Shelford Treehouse because it was produced almost entirely while staying with my girlfriend, Georgie (the inspiration behind Georgie Gets Jazzy) at her family's home in Great Shelford, UK. I spent a handful of days in the quiet atmosphere and nature around their home, which had a treehouse in the backyard (thus the Shelford Treehouse title). That treehouse had windchimes hanging from it, which I recorded on my phone. You're able to hear those chimes in the intro of "Nelson's String." We spent the days playing with their cat, Nelson, who loved a little string toy that we tied together so he had entertainment. We spent the evenings together by a fire, as their other cat, Teddy, dozed off to sleep and rumbled around as he was dreaming. If you're thinking to yourself "well these song titles are a little on the nose, eh? - they sure are. I tend to be a sponge with my surroundings and infuse the world into the music I make. Hope you enjoy :)

- Which are the main music influences that you brought in your EP? Can you share with us three tracks that inspired you during the making of?

Matthew Halsall - Calder Shapes - I've been obsessed with Matthew Halsall's creative takes on modern jazz. You can almost hear elements of a Bonobo track, but it never dives too deep into electronic influence. It grazes electronic influence while remaining truly jazzy and relaxed.

Black Noi$e - V98.7 -  Ultra smooth, ultra clean, ultra...perfection? This song gives you everything you need while not doing too much and giving each element space to breathe. Incredible vibes from Portage Garage Sounds and the city of Detroit!

Johnny Hammond - Lost on 23rd Street - One of the true pioneers of the Hammond Organ sound, so much so that he earned the nickname Johnny "Hammond" rather than his real name Johnny Smith. This song is packed full of incredible chord progressions, tight grooves, and creative key solos. It just keeps getting bigger and better as the track progresses.
