Robotnik3000 & Spinnage and his Sensual Waves EP

- Hi guys, how are you and how does it feel like releasing music on Apparel Music?

Robotnik3000 (Simon):
Hi Gius, I am fine thanks! Really happy release this EP with my friend and collaborator Spinnage on Apparel Music, one of the best and most famous Electronic music label in Italy. It is a chance for us, and for the label to have us :). Thanks again Gius for enabling this release and Spinnage for the incredible work he does on these 3 tracks.

Spinnage (Hideo):
I first heard about Apparel Music from my friend Daichi Kagawa, who told me, “There’s a unique and interesting label in Italy.” Since then, I’ve been a fan of the label myself. Now, I’m truly excited to be releasing a collaboration between me — based in Tokyo — and my close friend Robotnik3000, who lives 9,900 kilometres away, on this very label.

- Talk us through the creative process behind the making of this EP. How did it come about and how did you work on it?

Robotnik3000 (Simon):
For this EP, we worked in "Back and Forth" mode on these 3 tracks. We arrive to finals tracks fairly quickly. The chemistry worked quickly, which is very satisfying.

Spinnage (Hideo):
These three tracks travelled back and forth between us many times, like a shuttle bus. The starting point for all of them was tracks created by Robotnik3000. So my first job was simply to listen — listen deeply, again and again — and carefully think about what I could bring to his ideas.

- Which are the main music influences that you brought in your EP? Can you share with us three tracks that inspired you during the making of?

Robotnik3000 (Simon):
So many music are influencing me in my production process: jazz, classical music and electronic music. As I wrote it in the introduction of my PhD thesis, artists who influenced me the most (and that is still the case) are Darius, Concept_e25 and Claude Debussy.  In terms of hardware, I am influenced by the sounds of JUNO synth and TR-909 drum machine. When I collaborate with Hideo (Spinnage) and when I start a track, he has the thing to turn my idea in tune. I don't know how he do that, but he succeed every time.

Spinnage (Hideo):
I was a pop-loving kid in the 1980s, but became a full-on house music enthusiast from 1990 onwards. Over the years, I’ve lived through the evolution of house alongside my ever-growing record collection, while also exploring hip-hop, drum’n’bass and broken beats along the way. Robotnik3000’s tracks always seem to awaken those musical memories and offer fresh inspiration.
