Now & Next: Miles Ellis

Now & Next is a quick-fire interview series built around two simple but telling questions. We ask artists to reflect on where they’re at in their career and creative journey, and where they’re headed next. For each answer, they pick two tracks: one that sums up where they’re at right now, and another that hints at where they’re going. The artists also drop a few lines about each track, giving us a peek into their creative mindset.

Where Am I?

I am in my room writing this. It's Christmas day. I feel a little breeze from my window and the whole day has been a new feeling of hope. I learned that I needed to be nicer to myself on so many levels after finally sitting down and understanding where I am in time right now. My dream of making music and living off it has since passed. Ego has left the building if you will. Where I sit is the start of a new passage in time. I'm very hopeful about my attitude towards my craft right now.

Where Am I Going?

At this point , who knows. I thrive on uncertainty and going with the next moment in my life. I have always been fascinated with long trips and devastating scenarios that change our life and makes us either bitter or happy. Life is a rollercoaster and I’m just on the ride. I think I’ll land on a moon someday and be happy with myself and my endeavors. It’s the journey not the destination.

Track (Now):
Teenage Lobotomy
Ramones

"I picked this song as the Ramones have given me a sense of pride and freedom not a lot of other bands or music does. I love the main riff of this song in particular. The lyrics make me laugh, and I understand that this is the point of the song: to have fun. Everyone has started to lose this main ingredient in making music. Just have fun with it. This song is pure fun."

Track (Next):
Body Talk
Ratt

"This song is my favorite of theirs. Ratt is a solid band and the guitar work gets me every time. This one in particular the opening melody is something I love hearing and sets the mood for the track because then you are right in the middle of a killer riff and action and presence. The two dynamics being done so well are what I strive for in my music, having killer dynamics and being a solid force of nature. 20 seconds in, the change is something I want to harness someday..."
