Counterfly and his Èlapimpish EP

Counterfly’s EP called Èlapimpish is the protagonist of the 14th release of the young, yet rich Apparel Tronic’s catalogue. We asked a few questions to the man himself to get to know a bit more about him and his music!

-Hi Counterfly, how are you and how does it feel like releasing music on Apparel Tron-ic?

I’m not too bad, thanks! Can’t really complain at the moment. I have a secure job that allows me to live fairly well and I still have enough time to dedicate to music, which is for me what matters the most. I’m super excited to release an EP with Apparel Tronic. It’s a solid label, I like their music aesthetic and I feel that my music can fit very well.

-Talk us through the creative process behind the making of this EP. How did it come about and how did you work on it?

Èlapimpish EP was not pre planned in any way. It’s more of a collection of tracks made throughout 2-3 years that I felt they could fit together well enough to create an EP. My music approach is very spontaneous. I’ve never imposed myself to make a certain type of music, I just let my music sensibility (that was built through a lot of lis-tening to all sort of music) goes wherever it wants to go, without setting any real boundary. In the making of this EP I’ve mixed up both sampling techniques (I’ve tweaked samples both from old tracks of mine and 900th century classical music), my own field recordings (you find those mainly in the tracks Flare and Èlapimpish) and pi-ano/keys/synth arrangements.

-Can you share with us three tracks that inspired you during the making of?

The main influences that inspired me in the making of this EP come from IDM/ Downtempo/ Broken Beats artists such as Wagon Christ (he’s my main inspira-tion), Clark, FaltyDL, Plaid and others. Microhouse artists such as Dj Koze and Isolée also played a role. Then I was heavily influenced also by Nordic Jazz artists such as Esbjörn Svennson Trio and Avishai Cohen.
