Now & Next: Giom

Now & Next is a quick-fire interview series built around two simple but telling questions. We ask artists to reflect on where they’re at in their career and creative journey, and where they’re headed next. For each answer, they pick two tracks: one that sums up where they’re at right now, and another that hints at where they’re going. The artists also drop a few lines about each track, giving us a peek into their creative mindset.

Giom Q&A

Where Am I?

I am in a very good place right now. I’m writing this from my garden studio while my baby is sleeping. Since becoming a father just over a year ago, I’ve had no time to do anything and yet, managed to be more productive than I have in years. I’m making house music again, I have new, younger fans that seem to have just discovered me and are into my old stuff, which is why I’m currently re-releasing some of it on both digital and vinyl. I’m also putting a live show together with a laptop and controllers, which is going to be a lot of fun. Finally, I’m writing and recording for my band PREP’s 3rd album, before we head on tour in October.

Where Am I Going?

As far as house music goes, I have brand new EP coming out next month on Anjunadeep and I think it’s fair to say it’s a bit of a departure for me, especially if you happen to know my old music. This EP is a result of me experimenting and doing things a bit differently in the studio and I’m super proud of the results. It’s still me of course, but a new, wiser me… There’s also an album in the making, I’d say 3/4 are done! And this live show is tasking all my time, going to be fun!

Track (Now):
On The Level
Mac DeMarco

"For the past 10 years, I don’t think I’ve listened to anyone more than Mac Demarco. I just adore his records, he has the ultimate songwriting gift, like a young Paul McCartney. All his songs touch my heart in a way I can’t describe. I’ve picked this one up but there are so many to choose from. Raw simplicity at its best."

Track (Next):
Allowance
Isolée

"This is the side of electronic music that still floors me. It’s the sound of musical freedom and great studio skills. I love the whole Pampa crew from Koze, Robag Wrhume, Dave DK and in this case, Isolée.I think this track, while quite old now represents the label perfectly: one foot on the dance floor and the other one in a melancholic dream... For me this is as good as it gets and maybe one day I can get close to that."
